frequently asked questions

Will the solar power plant generate energy during rainy days?

Yes! Our solar panels are designed to perform better in low light conditions due to positive tolerances in power ratings which would help our customers generate more on a rainy day than standard solar products. Of course energy generated would not be 100% of that on a sunny day.

What is the average payback period for a solar power plant?

It is not very difficult to calculate the payback period on a solar PV system, but one can only do best approximation as it is impossible to predict economic factors such as inflation and future cost of electricity which always rise. The simplest way to summarize this is by first finding out the net energy required by your premises and matching it to the total solar power generation required. Use our Calculator to find out how much capacity you need to save on a yearly basis.

How much space do I need on top of my roof?

Well, approximately this would depend on factors such as solar power plant accessibility requirement and type of roof. But as a guideline for every 1000 watts solar power capacity, you would require about 75 sq.ft footprint area and an additional 25 sq.ft as access area around the solar power plant. So as an example for a 5000 watt solar power plant you would require 500 sq.ft of rooftop space.

Can I run industrial machines/heavy loads on solar power?

Yes of course! Our Solar Grid-tie power plants come in either single phase or a three-phase configuration thereby catering to heavy power generation as well. Our  20KW range can be used as four numbers of 5KW in single-phase configuration or as a single three-phase 20KW  configuration. We can install up to 1000KW (1340 Hp) in a single power plant by using stacking concept similar to cascading.

Can we use Spica power plants for commercial?

Yes, in fact schools, colleges, shopping malls, hospitals, offices etc are all places of high energy consumption during the day especially for air conditioning and other requirements. Installing a Spica power plant would enable abundant savings thereby increasing profitability and reducing burden of cost inflation. Go ahead give your business, institution or organization the energy it deserves! See our calculator section to calculate your energy requirements today!

Can my roof handle the system?

“On average, solar panels and mounting equipment weight around 10 to 20 kg per square meter which is usually within the allowable limits of your roof. Before installation of the solar system, it is essential to have an engineer do a structural analysis of the roof. This is a standard practice for all solar systems installed by Elite power”

How do I know the project will be handled safely and smoothly?

“Lots of things can go wrong on solar projects, schedules can slip, conflicts can arise between contractors but worst of all people can get hurt. This is the reason why within Elite power we use and enforce a rigorous and process-based approach to project management, this enables us to deliver to our customers smooth, safe and repeatable projects which are of the highest quality. In addition, we pride ourselves in providing very regular updates thus providing you with transparency on project progress.”

Does this mean I will disconnect from the grid?

“No it doesn’t. Assuming your factory or building is connected to the grid, that will continue to be the case even after we have installed our system. The inverters will detect the frequency and tension of the grid supply and adjust the solar PV system output to match those exactly so that both grid supply and solar PV supply “blend” perfectly.

What will happen in practice is that the solar system will generate power during day time and the grid will “top up” your requirement, whilst during the night and/or cloudy days then most (or all) of your supply will come from the grid. There will be no impact to your processes and there is not “switch over” time to worry about”

Who will look after the system after commissioning?

“Elite Power Operations & Maintenance (O&M) team will take over the systems upon its completion. That includes remote monitoring of the performance parameters of the system as well as various long-term behaviour analyses. This allows us to make sure the asset is operating at its best at any given time. A comprehensive set of preventive maintenance tasks are also implemented from the commencement of operations throughout the system’s lifetime. In case of system breakdown, a reactive maintenance ticket is issued with the problem addressed as soon as possible to ensure the project delivers its full benefits to our customers.”

How can I see how my system is performing?

“We offer all of our customers a personalised webpage that details the current performance of the system, from inception up to the end of the previous day. This report includes the energy produced, the CO2 that has been avoided by using this clean energy and the equivalent trees that would be required to absorb this much CO2
